Mia Spicuzza Guzlas
Director - Perfoming Arts

Mia SpicuzzaA native of Mobile, Mia is an energized dancer and choreographer whose passion for the performing arts is both spontaneous and long-standing. In 2006, she earned her Certificate in Dance Teaching from the acclaimed Broadway Dance Center in New York. Prior to being awarded this prestigious degree, Mia toured professionally throughout the Southeast as a dancer and worked as an instructor and choreographer for several studios along the Gulf Coast. In the past decade, she studied and performed with several regional dance companies, including Mobile Ballet, Sheffield’s School of Dance, Melinda Leigh’s School of Performing Arts and the renowned Javier’s Dance Studio in Louisiana.

Mia’s innovative style has earned her many “Platinum” and “Top Overall” awards for her solo and group dance performances, and she has received numerous honors for her choreography. Her television credits include appearances on ESPN2 with Paula Abdul, and MTV’s The Newlyweds featuring Jessica Simpson. Perhaps most notable, however, is Mia’s affiliation with Bowl Games of America where she has lent creative expertise to multiple pre-game and half-time shows for the Sugar Bowl and the Liberty Bowl.

To fulfill a lifelong dream of teaching dance, Mia founded Southern Edge Dance Center in 2007. As Creative Director, she provides original instruction and choreography for all our performances. Mia is known for her attentive, nurturing ways with students. She relishes their youthful exuberance and is committed to giving dancers a positive outlet for their energy. Although classical ballet is Mia’s most trained discipline, she continually explores new opportunities for her own personal and professional growth in the world of performing arts.
